Do you feel like you are not getting enough done in the day? Waking up just one hour earlier can significantly improve your productivity because we tend to have more energy and fewer distractions earlier in the day. Also, waking up an hour earlier each day can really add up over time. Here are some tips on how to adjust your schedule for waking up earlier.
Have a Healthy Eating Routine
Having a healthy eating routine, where you eat 2-3 meals at the same time each day, will help you to stay consistent with your sleep cycle. Have your final meal at least three hours before bedtime. Eating close to bedtime can cause your body to focus on digesting food instead of resting. Also, avoid drinks that contain caffeine, such as coffee, after lunchtime because caffeine can stay in your system for 4-6 hours.
Adjusting Your Sleep Time
Here are some tips for how to adjust your sleep schedule:
● Turn off all electronic devices by 7:00 p.m. so that you won’t stay up late doing things such as working on your computer or watching a movie. Use the time from 7:00 p.m. to your bedtime to do relaxing things, such as reading a chapter in a book or meditating.
● If your goal is to wake up an hour earlier, then go to sleep an hour earlier. But you can adjust your schedule gradually so that your body gets used to the change. For example, you can start out by going to sleep 20 minutes earlier than usual and waking up 20 minutes earlier than usual. Every few days, increase the time by 20 minutes until you reach your goal.
Getting Enough Exercise
Exercising on a regular basis can help you to get to sleep faster and to get refreshing sleep, so schedule time in your calendar for consistent exercise. Even just taking walks can have significant benefits for your health.
Planning Your Next Day
By planning your day ahead of time, you won’t stay awake worrying about what you may need to do tomorrow and you will be able to wake up and get easily into your work. Also, before going to bed, make peace with situations that did not go well that day. This way, you won’t stay awake worrying about them. One method of doing this is to visualize the situation as you would have liked it to go. This will also help you to do better the next time a similar situation arises.
