6 Tips for Building a Strong Email List

WholeLife Matrix: Financial Viability / Marketing

“Either write something worth reading or do something worth writing.”

 Benjamin Franklin

You have probably heard that building an email list is important. Most marketers still say that a majority of their sales come from their email lists. So how can you build a powerful list? Here are some strategies.

1. Identify Your Audience and Create Solutions
The first step is to specifically identify who your audience is and what their challenges are. Then find and offer solutions for them. To get started with this, create a statement of what you will do for your audience, similar to an elevator pitch. Identify where your audience is online and who is already helping them.

2. Create Giveaways
Create giveaways for your audience to help solve their problems by using lead magnets. Most people are not ready to buy as soon as they land on your site, so the lead magnet helps to build trust. Include a lot of value in the giveaway. It should be something that your audience would be very interested in downloading and it should also be short and easy to read.

3. Build Highly Converting Opt-In Pages
Your opt-in page should have a strong title, have bullet points stating what you are offering, and only ask for name and email address. Also, the text that you put on the opt-in button is important. Some good examples are “I’m In” or “FREE Instant Access.” Including a picture of a smiling person and social proof logos also helps conversions, as does including an image of what you are giving away. To make it easy to create your opt-in page, you can use tools such as LeadPages.

4. Using Opt-In Boxes
Think of all the places where you could display your giveaway. Adding an opt-in box at the top of your site with a giveaway can help to increase newsletter signups. Pop up boxes also work well. You can also place opt-in boxes at the end of your blog or other places within your blog to offer giveaways related to your blog. To do this, you can use LeadBoxes by Leadpages.

5. Promoting Your Giveaway
Promote your giveaway offers directly and indirectly via social media. You can also offer a giveaway on your Facebook fan profile page. Another idea is to create images of quotes and have links on them to your giveaway. You can also use Facebook ads to drive traffic to your blog.

6. Create an Autoresponder Sequence
Set up an autoresponder sequence for new subscribers to build a relationship with them. Once you have sent them a few emails that provide them with valuable content, you can start sending offers.

In your first email to them, when you send them the free giveaway, include the name of the giveaway in the subject line. Within the email, state what you are giving them, then provide the link to the giveaway. Next, describe what you are giving them and provide the link again. At the end of the email, mention something you will be sending them soon, such as an invitation to a webinar. That way, they will anticipate the next thing you will be sending them.
