How to Turn Your Mind Into an Idea Generator

WholeLife Matrix: Financial Viability / Marketing

“No matter what people tell you, words and ideas can change the world.” – Robin Williams

We all have a creative part of ourselves that we can access, but why is it that some people access it more often than others? Often, new ideas are discovered by making unusual connections between concepts that seem unrelated. But most of us have the same patterns of thought from day to day, which does not lead to new ideas. However, by developing some habits, we can change those patterns and make new connections that help us to generate ideas. Here are some tips.

1. Be Prepared to Capture Ideas
Always have a notebook and pen handy so that you can capture your ideas immediately. You may think that you will remember your idea without writing it down, but you will most likely forget it, just like you forget dreams – even the ones that seem very real. There are even notebooks available for the shower in case you get an idea in the shower!

2. Observe the Products in Stores
The products that you see in stores are the physical manifestations of many ideas. Making observations about these products can help to increase your idea-generating abilities. Look at the products on the shelves and ask yourself questions such as: “How could this product be improved?”, “Does the product have missing details or flaws in appearance, product design or function that could be improved?”

3. Have New Adventures
Having new experiences will get your mind out of its normal routine and allow it to process new information and make new connections. These new connections can help you to come up with new ideas and see things from a fresh perspective.

4. Draw and Visualize
Using visualization and making drawings will help you to develop ideas. Using these techniques can even help your subconscious mind to work on a solution to an idea while you sleep. This is why many inventors and scientists often arrive at solutions to problems when they dream during sleep.

5. Keep a Collection of Inspiring Materials
Keeping a collection of inspiring images and writing samples can help you to generate ideas. Your collection may include poems, artwork, essays, images of beautiful places, etc.

6. Connect with Creative People
Connecting with creative people can help to inspire you and give you feedback and new ideas. There are many groups available both online and in person for areas such and art, writing, inventing, architecture, crafting, and more.
